Let's Save the World Together! One Piece of Asphalt at a Time!

You wouldn’t purposely put any product containing cancer causing agents inside your home, so why would you willingly put it outside of your home or business? At this time, there are so many environmentally safe options to keep your properties looking their best. Let’s discuss what exactly coal-tar sealcoat is and the safe options that are available.

First of all, any time you go to a parking lot or driveway that is older, but somehow looks new again is thanks to an asphalt sealcoat. Sealcoat prolongs the life of your asphalt, provides added skid resistance, and keeps it looking freshly laid. Most sealcoat products are either coal-tar or asphalt emulsion based. Coal-tar has extremely high concentrations of PAHs, and are classified as known human carcinogens. Coal-tar based sealcoats are usually 20%-35% coal tar, but asphalt emulsion based sealcoats generally have little to no PAHs in their makeup.

Rhynotite, an asphalt emulsified sealcoat manufactured by Sealtite: Green Asphalt Maintenance, has 0% PAHs. Here at Sealtite, we pride ourselves on producing and distributing the best possible product to our customers. Rhynotite is ready to be used on your project straight out of the container. Rhynotite is black as night, will not leave you with extreme chemical burns like other sealcoats, and has NO ODOR.

Sealtite: Green Asphalt Maintenance started producing Rhynotite to help solve a few problems that local asphalt crews were facing. Asphalt businesses in our area were in need of something that didn’t affect the respiratory system of the men and women applying sealcoat on a regular basis. Since Sealtite is a family owned and operated business, we know how important it is to leave the world better than we found it for generations to come. We know that taking the small step towards using Rhynotite and away from using toxic coal-tar will benefit everyone in the long run.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll leave you with this. This image shows just how much coal-tar affects the world around us. With your help, we can make the world a greener place.

Asphalt Maintenance Experts Still Working

And why not? Work in the field is not only conducive to social distancing, it’s almost a requirement of the job. Pavers, sealcoaters and stripers alike generally are quite a bit farther apart than 6 ft., and in those instances where they need to work more closely, that 6-ft. distance is still workable. Sweeper operators are flying solo (virtually no difference for them), many sweepers report an increased number of sweeps, and some have added some type of cleaning, such as power washing carts, to their operation.

Difference Between Hot-Pour And Cold-Pour Crack Sealants

• Hot-pour sealants start out as a solid that is melted at the site until it is liquid. It is then applied hot and allowed to cool for a few minutes before applying a pavement sealer.
• Cold-pour sealants are delivered as liquids and applied straight from the package without heating. Since they are liquids, they have to cure before pavement sealer can be applied.

When is the best time to lay asphalt?

When paving in hot weather, time becomes less of an issue, as the high temperatures allow the asphalt to remain stable and easy to compact. Paving driveways or pathways in cold weather is when efficiency becomes an issue, because there’s a shorter period of time allotted to compact the asphalt; it’s important for the contractor to work quickly for the best results.
